Happy Holidays from Barrel of Makers!
Our creative community has had a great year of making, teaching, and learning! We’ve taught members how to weld, how to use our 3D printer, and how to screen print their own t-shirts. We’ve worked on big collaborative projects, and helped each other prototype new inventions. We’ve also been providing hands-on, educational workshops and activities for hundreds of people, giving them the confidence to be makers, too. Everything we have been able to do has been thanks to support from our local community.
With contributions we received last year, we were able to work with high school students to build a small fleet of “drawbots” and use them to help others. Thanks to their joystick controls, these robots provide disabled individuals with a way to make works of art they are proud to show off. This project won the community service segment of the National Odyssey of the Mind Competition – a first for Delaware!
We have also become especially close partners with Delaware libraries, where our volunteers teach classes on 3D design and printing, programming, electronics, and more. We just received our first grant to help fund a six-part series that combines the most exciting parts of these classes. Makers in our group will be giving young people the means to create, rather than just consume technology.
Our group is super excited to start a new year of making art, tech, and craft projects together. With your support, we will continue igniting the curiosity of a new generation of makers, regardless of age.
Thank you, and have a happy holiday season,
